Okay, so your phone or computer is running slow or saying you’re outta storage — annoying, right? But don’t freak out, checking how much storage you got and freeing some space is actually pretty easy. I’m gonna show you some quick tips to do that on Windows, Mac, and smartphones without breaking a sweat.
How to Check Storage Space on Windows
First, let’s see how much storage you got left on your PC. Here’s what you do:
-
Click the Start menu and go to Settings (the little gear icon).
-
Then click System and after that Storage.
-
You’ll see a nice bar showing how much space is used and how much is free on your drives. It even shows what kinda stuff is taking space like apps, documents, pics, videos, etc.
If you want, click on different categories to see what files are hogging your storage.
How to Free Up Space on Windows
Windows actually has a built-in tool called Disk Cleanup that helps you delete junk files.
-
Search for “Disk Cleanup” in the Start menu.
-
Select the drive you wanna clean (usually C:).
-
It will scan and then show a list of stuff you can delete like temporary files, recycle bin, system files, etc. Just check the boxes and hit OK.
Also, uninstall apps you don’t use. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & Features, find apps you rarely use and uninstall them.

On Mac, checking storage is easy too:
